Smith’s Hong Kong Office Visits Tsang Shiu Tim Home for the Elderly

Smith employees participate in a fun day of activities with residents of a local long-term care facility

Earlier this summer, employees from Smith’s Hong Kong office and their family members visited the Tsang Shiu Tim Home for the Elderly (TST Home). Twelve volunteers, including three young children, spent the day performing, playing games, and having afternoon tea with the residents.

The group worked alongside the TST Home residents to make decorative flowers and paintings to hang on their walls and also sang some children’s nursery rhymes together. Our Asia Marketing Manager, Jessica Yu, said that she enjoyed watching her two daughters connect with the residents.

“It was nice to have so many generations gathered together,” Jessica said. “You wouldn’t necessarily think a 4-year-old and an 84-year-old would have much in common, but we all had a great time getting to know one another. It’s important to me to give my daughters opportunities to volunteer to cultivate their interest in giving back to the community.”

The TST Home opened in June 2010. The team of multidisciplinary professionals who work there includes registered nurses, enrolled nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. Together, they deliver a one-stop, long-term care and rehabilitation facility for senior citizens living with chronic illnesses, dementia, and the effects of stroke.

Macy Sin, HR Assistant, said she was happy to catch up with the residents she met during Smith’s previous visit to the facility last year.

“This is the second year we’ve visited the TST Home, and it’s great to see some familiar faces again,” Macy said. “We hope to see them all again next year, and we wish the residents good health and longevity.”
