In 2018, over two million new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed worldwide. At Smith, we believe that health is an integral part of a strong community, so our global CSR committee dedicated a week in October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – to bringing this disease to the forefront.
Our offices from around the world participated in the week’s events, which included:
“It’s a disease that knows no geographical boundaries,” said Kelly Law, Executive Assistant of our Hong Kong Operations location. “We felt it was important to join the rest of the Smith offices worldwide, so we could show we’re unified in our fight against breast cancer.”
All three of our regions – North America, Europe, and Asia – took part in the week-long initiative.
“It felt good coming together and joining Smith’s global community to send a strong message against breast cancer,” said Jessica Ruiz, Trading Manager of our Guadalajara, Mexico office. “It’s a serious topic, but we did have a lot of fun with the entire week. Put a Hat on Breast Cancer was probably our favorite day!”
This is the second year that Smith has taken part in a breast cancer awareness initiative. Last year, Smith’s Houston office formed a team for the Komen Houston Race for the Cure® to show our solidarity for a fellow employee who was battling cancer during that time. Through our awareness campaign, and in conjunction with efforts around the world, we hope to see a future where breast cancer is a thing of the past.
