In-house Testing Labs

We were one of the first independent distributors to have an in-house testing lab. Over the years, we’ve stayed ahead of the curve by continuously improving our equipment and capabilities. All three of our shipping and logistics hubs have in-house testing labs, so whether your parts are being shipped through our hubs in Houston, China, or Amsterdam, they will have the same level of quality control.

Microprocessor (CPU) Testing & Verification

Microprocessors can be tested to verify functionality and authenticity. Testing and verification reduces worries about counterfeit, defective and remarked microprocessors and protects the OEM and Distributor customer. CPU test utilities are provided directly from the product manufacturer and controlled using Smith’s internal Utility revision program. CPU testing hardware and utilities are mirrored in each operation worldwide. Tests performed include packaging and functionality tests as well as "remark tests." Memory Testing & Verification

Memory products can be tested to verify that they are functioning completely within specifications. The manufacturers logo and label are measured and compared to our in-house QC-sheet/Photo database for consistency with past orders. De-Capsulation of the DRAM chips can also be performed if product authenticity is in question. Most memory modules are tested on our stand alone memory tester, but server level modules and burn-in tests are performed using test mock-up stations. Hard Drive Diagnostics

Complete diagnostic testing for hard drives are available. Hard drives are tested on Smith’s custom HDD test mock-up. These test solutions allow Smith’s test technicians to be able to test any type of HDD on the same test fixture. All tests can be configured to your specifications and test times can vary based on tests selected. DOD Data wipe capability is also available to ensure sensitive data is destroyed. Complete diagnostic testing for optical disk drives, CD-ROM/DVD, and Blue Ray are available. Drives are tested for read/write functionality as well as multimedia capabilities. LCD Testing

Diagnostic testing of LCDs is done using a standalone benchtop test unit. We have custom programmable drive and pattern capability. Profiles are set up for each LCD model number and stored on the unit for future use. All panel sizes and manufactures can be supported.

Board Level Testing

We can conduct diagnosis and testing of all motherboards and computer cards. This ensures that all components on a board function and that the board/card performs according to manufacturers’ specifications.

  • Burn-in Test is conducted in PC Doctor. Board devices can be added or removed from the test script
  • Manufacturer specific component selection to populate motherboards.
  • Gold units in-house for benchmarking comparison.
  • Test reports can be attached to the product or shipment upon request. All system boards supported, including motherboards, video cards, audio cards, I/O cards, etc.
