Smith & Associates Rises to Top Ranking
HOUSTON, TEXAS - (July 8, 2009) - Smith & Associates' twenty-five years of expertise in electronics distribution was recognized recently by the award of a top ranking among its peers. In a survey of independent electronics distributors, Purchasing Magazine honored Smith & Associates with a number one ranking. Rankings for independent distributors based on 2008 sales were released by Purchasing Magazine on July 2, 2009.
Although many independent distributors experienced a decline in sales, Smith's sales increased in 2008. Smith reported $311 million in sales for 2008, with growth of 3% over the previous year.
"Considering that we were in a recession, a three percent increase in sales is something we can feel good about. We take pride in what our growth says about Smith's strength, people, and customer relationships," said Marc Barnhill, Chief Trading Officer.
With the recession causing many smaller brokers to go out of business, Smith's seasoned traders and commitment to quality contributed to growth in 2008.

The economic downturn also sparked a need among high-tech manufacturers to explore cost-savings opportunities. As a result, Smith saw increased interest in its supply chain strategies.
