Smith Relocates Our Hong Kong Regional Hub

Smith Hong Kong has relocated into two new locations to make room for growth and boost the support our team is able to offer customers locally. On August 29th, the Smith HK team completed their move to two new facilities: a new sales and purchasing office and an expanded warehouse space dedicated to the operational and logistical support that helps keep our customers in this region moving.

This office, which serves as Smith’s Asian hub and supports customers all across the continent, opened in 1997 to meet the demand for more personalized and immediate service from our growing customer base in the region. Since then, this office has been a central base of support for local customers and for our other sales and purchasing offices across Asia, from Seoul to Bangalore.

Now, as complex service and inventory management programs become more vital to a broad swathe of manufacturers across industries, we’ve expanded our facilities and resources in this major region to better serve this need.

The foundation of this increased capability lies in more warehouse space, which means more room for growth. Our new Hong Kong warehouse in the revitalized Kowloon Bay area has 15,000 square feet (1393.54 square meters) to offer, more than double the space our HK operations team was working with before. This offers Smith the chance to expand the different inventory management and logistics service programs and projects we have in place for many customers. Programs like VMI, consignment, and rework are complex and can take a lot of space (and need a lot of hands on deck to carry them out right). This expansion will give us more space and resources to work with.

It will also let us expand our anti-counterfeit and functional lab resources. Counterfeiting can still pose a sourcing challenge, in spite of heightened awareness across the industry, and a vigilant procurement program and strong quality on the front end are the best defense to protect supply chains. This room to grow will help Smith armor ourselves even better against this threat so that we can keep safeguarding our customers’ supplies.

In addition to the expanded operational space, our HK trading team has found a bustling new home, too, in the Times Square office tower and shopping center complex in Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island. It’s a dynamic place to do business, and our Hong Kong trading team has hit the ground running, working to build their customer relationships even further and establish new partnerships.

Whether they’re arranging deals in our trading office or carrying out testing in our warehouse, our Hong Kong team now has more resources to support our customers better and deliver even more creative solutions. We’re excited to see what they achieve in their new homes!
