COMPUTEX 2016 opened in Taipei today with a notably different emphasis than in previous years. Long an international showcase for Taiwan’s computer-centric tech companies, the show is putting a big focus on new technologies and new, startup players this year.
Of course, there are still many Taiwan-based ODMs and smart card- and module-makers, but there are more auto makers this year than ever – Audi and Mercedes are first-time exhibitors. Industrial powerhouse ABB is here this year for the first time, too. But, along with these new multinationals, startups have an increased presence, along with the venture capital firms supporting them.
From new exhibitors to keynote addresses, there is a palpable sense of the changing face of the global technology business in Taipei this week.
