Smith & Associates Gains R2 Certification
New certification confirms Smith’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility
Houston, TX (December 15, 2015) – Smith & Associates, the largest independent distributor of electronic components, today announces its global headquarters’ certification to R2. This certification reflects Smith’s dedication to promoting and maintaining responsible electronic recycling practices.
The R2 certification, which is recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), specifies e-waste practices for recyclers disassembling or recovering used electronics equipment. These practices address worker health and safety, data security, environmental stewardship, legal compliance, insurance requirements, and the worldwide downstream management of end-of-life electronic material and equipment. Smith’s certification to this standard underscores the company’s deep commitment to supporting a healthy and responsible global recycling stream.
“Due diligence and accountability are the factors that help Smith make a difference as we navigate the global supply chain and recycling stream,” said Kirk Wehby, Smith’s Chief Operating Officer. “Smith has made a commitment to continuous improvement of our environmental and social practices, from outfitting our world headquarters with solar power to upholding ethical operational practices at our offices worldwide. Our certification to the R2 standard reflects this focus on responsibility, awareness, and constant growth.”
“By working with Smith,” Wehby continued, “our partners around the world are able to rest easy in the knowledge that any parts we process for them will be managed carefully and ethically, in line with global laws and standards. Improper handling of used electronics is a serious global problem, and it’s our goal to be part of the solution.”
