Shortages, price hikes seen for NAND

Right now, there appears to be a balance between supply and demand for NAND flash in the marketplace.
And prices for NAND parts have fallen in recent times. But shortages--and price hikes--are coming soon.
''While Gartner and most NAND vendors (based on guidance from their financial earnings calls) anticipate some price erosion, ranging from negative 10 percent to negative 15 percent during the second quarter of 2010, the consensus is overwhelming that the third quarter of 2010 is projected to be a time of significant shortages, with Gartner expecting prices to rise at least 5 percent from the previous quarter,'' said Joseph Unsworth, an analyst with the research firm.
