Electronic component distributors have never been slow to respond to change. Distribution has undergone extensive consolidation over the past decade, with even large players disappearing into the portfolios of bigger, better-heeled rivals seeking to capture additional OEM procurement budgets.
The consolidation has been bittersweet. OEMs' desire for a wider range of distributor services has often resulted in the disappearance of the middle ground, a segment that once served specialized OEMs.
