During October and November netbook and notebook panel manufacturers fell behind in production and were unable to meet demand. Demand exceeded supply by as much as 20% and was most noted on 14.1 and 15.4 inch models. Now, at year end, there are many second tier netbook and notebook OEMs that still can't get supply from the LCD manufacturers. We see the backlog easing, but there are several models that are tight. Large quantity orders are on a minimum of 4 to 6 week lead-times. But, small quantity netbook and notebook panels are available currently in the open market. CCFL models will continue to be very short thru 2010 as manufacturers' focus has moved to LED models. While LCD prices are stable, we see a bit of tightening where there are stock shortages.
In the broader LCD market, analysts have made much of the CMO merger with Innolux. The reports indicate, however, that this will not affect the netbook, notebook size panels, but will have a greater impact on the television size screens (37 inches and above.)
