Market Alert: Memory prices sink across the board

-DDR2 667 prices are down 15 to 20% on 1G materials and 30 to 40% on 2G materials. Most large computer manufacturers have converted to 800 speeds, leaving lots of 667 material on shelves. Looking ahead, DDR2 667 should have bottomed out -- 1G 667 modules in particular won’t go any lower from manufacturers.

-DDR2 800s, which run at $12.50-13.00, may come down another 50 cents before turning back up. Demand for 800s in new machines will keep their pricing above 667 levels.

-Graphic RAM has been affected by the slowdown in consumer spending. Fewer consumers are spending on upgraded or new graphic cards, creating some backup on supplier’s shelves. Buyers in the market are looking for excess inventory.

-NAND has monthly decreases in pricing while higher density chips make their way into every day usage in mainstream materials. That’s driven by both the need for more memory, and the new affordability of higher density parts.
