Market Alert: Display Price Declines To Continue Into August
Monday, 21 July 2008 06:37
Full Issue
- Large-size panel prices have tumbled this July. Monitor panel prices have dropped US $8-12 and LCD TV prices dropped as much as US $30.
- The price of notebook panels will remain relatively stable through July, mainly because TV panel prices have dropped and the OEM’s are pulling in large quantities in order to support the third quarter.
- In August, notebook panels are expected to drop around US $5 because there are excess quantities available from production sites.
- However, some manufacturers have confirmed that they will decrease production by 10% in the third quarter in order to keep prices stable.
- The 14.1” panel is in severe shortage right now. We expect to see a shortage on these panels for at least the next 3 months.
- The smaller panels, 7”-10.2”, will become more popular in the future. Some new lower price models have been launched recently and new players are getting into the game.
