Full Issue2007 Holiday Gadget Wrap-up
Since this year's innumerable electronic and tech gadget options may be daunting even to the most seasoned shopper, Smith MarketWatch has compiled a collection of online articles, product reviews, and resources to help holiday shoppers make their list (and check it twice)...
-The Ultimate Holiday Tech Gadget Buyer's Guide 2007 from Information Week Magazine features seven categories of the latest must-have gadgets: Media to Go, Media to Stay, Fun and Games, Photo/Video, On the Road, Cheap Stuff, and The Sky's the Limit. If the sky truly is the limit for the boys and girls on your list, consider the DreamFlyer Flight Motion Simulator.
-The Washington Post's Holiday Guide includes a "Holiday Tech Guide" section that offers key features to look for in home computers, digital cameras, and digital TVs.
-CNET's 2007 Holiday Gift Guide offers the option to shop by product category or price range, and offers Editor's Top picks such as the JVC KD-NX5000, a 3.5" Detachable Vehicle Navigation/CD/DVD Player Receiver.
-For the gamer on your list, CNET's recent article "The incredible, affordable gaming-PC spectacular" reviews several PCs with custom configurations for PC gaming.
-Amazon.com recently announced the release of the Kindle, a wireless reading device which allows the user to choose among more than 90,000 titles, download them instantly to the device, and read them on a high-resolution screen that "looks and reads like real paper". Despite mixed reviews (see PC World's Amazon Kindle Review: Igniting Interest in E-Books? and CNET's Amazon Kindle Review), the device is sold out until after Christmas.
-A recent CNET article,"Memo to Santa: Ask parents before gifting tech toys", offers general advice for gift-givers to consult with the parents to minimize concerns such as compatibility, online access, power consumption and age-appropriate content.
-Shopping for a baby boomer tech-junkie? A recent Chicago Sun-Times article, "Great gift ideas booming", details a few off-the-beaten-path gadgets and services such as ScanMyPhotos.com International, a service that offers affordable solutions to scan and enhance those shoeboxes full of photos that so many boomers are still hoarding.
-CBS's "The Early Show" this week featured Tech Gifts For Gadget Lovers, which included WildCharge, a wireless charging station for mobile devices.
-Forbes.com offers "In Pictures: Top Treats For Gadget-Lovers". Their "Ten Must-Give Gadgets" include the Sony Bravia S Series 32" LCD Flat-Panel HDTV, the Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, and Apple's iPod touch.
