In a November 14 Webcast, George Scalise, president of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), said SIA predicts solid growth in the semiconductor industry over the next two years. SIA forecasts a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of ~7.7%, which will make the semiconductor industry a $321B market by 2010.

Scalise said overall growth for 2007 is forecast at 3.8%, up from the 1.8% that SIA predicted in June of this year. SIA expects 2007 sales to total near $257B. Flash demand will see the most significant growth from teh MP3 player and cell phone industry, says SIA, with a projected 20% CAGR in that sector. PCs will continue to drive the largest amount of semiconductor demand, followed by cell phones and other consumer products.

In 2008, PCs will continue to grow at ~11% per year, although handsets will see a small slow down to ~8%. 1.2 billion cell phone units are expected to being shipped in 2008.
