Moore on Moore's Law

At the Intel Developer Forum on what the company billed as the 50th anniversary of the integrated circuit, Intel Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus Gordon Moore reflected on past technological developments and discussed the future of ICs.

In a conversation with Moira Gunn, moderator of National Public Radio's "TechNation" program, Moore predicted an eventual end to “Moore’s Law”. The axiom he presented in a 1965 article, which has come to be known as “Moore’s Law”, states that the number of transistors on a chip doubles about every two years.

“You can’t go beyond certain limits,” Moore said, “When asked what are microelectronics’ fundamental limitations, Steven Hawking answered ‘the speed of light and the atomic nature of matter.’”
