Countless industries are facing environmental legislation which governs their products’ material content and their factories’ emissions. They are also faced with an increasingly eco-conscious consumer who wants to reduce their own carbon footprint and lower their energy bills by buying green products.
Organizations like Greenpeace and the Green Electronics Council rank electronics manufacturers and their products based on their Earth-friendliness. Major PC and consumer electronics manufacturers are raising their green profiles by lowering their environmental impact; reducing their use of harsh chemicals in production and producing energy-efficient products that are easy to recycle.
Roger Kay, a computer industry analyst with Endpoint Technologies in Wayland, Mass. recently told CNN that the practice of greening companies has devolved somewhat from distinguishing brand to staying with the pack.
